I bought new top mounts for my Vectra A touring car project. The car is similar to the picture but it lacks racing livery and steers from the left side.
Today I brought the parts to meet the car. They don’t fit. The diameter of the top mounts is around 25% too big to fit inside the strut towers. Complaining to the seller is one option but modifying the towers would be the other option. I can’t decide anything today I’m too tired and annoyed.

Getting parts that don’t fit are such a pain in the ass. Any pics of the Vectra?

I have been a bit lazy taking pictures of it but I found a semi good one. The paint is a bit bad as I had problems with my spray gun. The bumpers and the trunk lid wear different colors. I bought the car literally in cardboard boxes and with nearly finished body. The former owner had fixed the numerous rust issues but he ran out of energy with the last easy patches.
It’s not yet very fast on track as the brakes are at their limit even with the old tires. But it’s very fun to drive on track. I put attachment points for roll cage while I was preparing the body for painting so that’s happening at some point.
I have a big pile of suspension upgrades coming up but currently they have been stalled. The engine is still the original 2 liter SOHC unit but I have a souped up C20XE to replace it when the suspension upgrades are done.

Nice! I’d love to have a track toy to play around with one day. Those C20XE engines are capable from what I’ve read.

I bought two C20XEs from a friend of a friend who had used them for national level rallycross racing (in a Lada!). With two DCOE 50 carburetors the better of them pushed out 233 hp at ~7000 rpm. So a bit over double the amount that the original pushed out.
The guys who use these for formula 3 cars push even more from these.
